Day 15: Sports Day

The Activity Leader Mob

Amy

Amy grew up in Canberra, making the move to Melbourne in 2009. She completed her Bachelor of Science (Genetics) at The University of Melbourne in 2012. Currently, Amy is a Master of Teaching (Primary) Student at The University of Melbourne. When she is not working, studying or singing Amy enjoys sewing, crafts, cooking and travel. This is Amy's first visit to Minyerri (and to the Northern Territory), she is really looking forward to getting to know the kids she has heard so much about.

Daryl

Daryl grew up on the Altherton Tableland in Far North Queensland, in a town called Yungaburra. These days he is living around Melbourne, working towards studying a Bachelor of Veterinary Science. Daryl loves hiking and bouldering and pretty much anything involving animals. After hearing many good things from past Teachabout volunteers, Daryl decided to give it a shot in 2013 and is very eager to meet the kids from Minyerri and potentially swim with crocodiles!

Eamon

Originally a Brisbane boy, Eamon has spent most of the last six years in sunny Victoria. He completed his Science/Arts degree at the University of Melbourne at the end of last year and is extremely excited to start a DPhil at Oxford University later this year where he will be researching the cogs and gears of the human body's natural nano-machines. In case you were wondering, Eamon really loves science - just ask him! This is his third trip to Minyerri and he cannot wait to do some mind-blowing experiments with the kids and also to spend some time honing his rusty fishing skills.

Erin

Erin is currently studying Politics, Linguistics and French at Melbourne Uni. She grew up in Adelaide and loves all things Adelaide. She also loves Minyerri - this is her sixth visit to Minyerri and she can't wait to see everyone again. Erin likes laughing and not taking things too seriously.

Jesse

This will be Jesse's third time as an activity leader in Minyerri. The program has sparked a passion for education and he is now studying a Master of Teaching at the University of Melbourne. Jesse grew up in the Victorian town of Castlemaine and is looking forward to this program so he can reacquaint himself with his guitar and continue to work on his mussel collecting skills. He is also looking forward to Eamon and Rita's cooking!

Rita

This will be Rita’s sixth visit to Minyerri and her third as an Activity Leader. She has recently submitted a research paper looking at youth education in remote Indigenous communities as part of her Masters of Social Science in International Development at RMIT University. Rita is looking forward to ditching Melbourne trams and making uses of her driver’s licence when she collects Teachabout participants in the troopie, for the day’s activities.
